I don't know that I'd say "The Savages" was the best film I've seen in
the past year (since it was released here later than in North America,
where it was a winner at last year's Academy Awards, that would probably
still be "The Lives of Others"). It was certainly, though, better, in my
estimation, than "No Country for Old Men", which I did not enjoy.

I suspect that the subject matter torpedoed any chance of "Juno" winning
Best Picture.
