Actually it was Mike Quill (not Quinn). I'm reminded of that every
time I get on the Lincoln Tunnel from the 11th Ave entrance -- there's
a huge building named after him there (with his name in very large
letters). Quill was put in prison until the transit workers went back
to work. When he would speak in front of the microphones he would put
on his best Irish brogue and call the mayor "Linsley" -- actually he
would say: "You're a damned liar you are Mayor Linsley". He was
hilarious -- he would make a great figure for a musical (about the
transit strike?).
