Hi Brian,
There may be two things going on here:
First, I'm guessing that you have a pre +10dB SM transmitter, which
has 10 dB less gain than the current units. This is not a problem; you
just turn up the gain 10 more numbers and get exactly the same signal
to noise ratio and performance as a +10 unit.
Second, the DPA 4071 has the same sensitivity as a DPA4061 which DPA
calls a low sensitivity microphone.
These two factors are allowing you to have "normal" gain settings. We
measured the DPA mics into the SM without the new series resistor and
the distortion was just as low as with the resistor; only the gain
changed. It sounds as if you have a good setup and I would leave it
alone.
