No clue about the soft/hardware state of the machine, but i do know
that they are going for around 4000 dollar second hand, on auction
sites.

Afaik, the only machine that generates a PDF file on the DVD+R ( and a
Ale, and even a csv ) for both folders ( M and P ) you dump, is the
Cantar.
And it is one of *the* most time saving options at wrap i've seen on
any recorder by the way. Very essential after 14 hours working, imo.

Recent there was a interesting discussion here about 2 SD7x.. ganged
together. 2 sep machines linked might sound ''cool'' but i would
always prefer a single machine. ( Any brand ) .
