WILLIAM HOUSTON: These days, Olbermann inspires fans and incites critics
by attacking the Bush administration in a forum dominated by the
political right =97 . cable television.
Olbermann said his rise to high-profile critic of White House policies
occurred largely by accident. It just seemed as if no one else was
willing to do it.
"I am amazed at the state of American society that whatever this role is
that I have now has fallen to me," he said. "I would have assumed that
there had to be 100 people in the line ahead of me. =85
This all started with [former . secretary of defence] Don Rumsfeld
saying people who were not fully supportive of the administration in its
Iraq policy or counterterrorism policy were equivalent to the appeasers
of Hitler.
"When efforts at the suspension of habeas corpus for some people arise,
in my naive little American history student way, I actually thought
there might be torch-lit processions in the streets."

Ya gotta give him credit.
