Finally got to see the show this weekend, and had a ball! Is it a
classic musical for the ages? No. But it's still so much fun, Kander
is a real pro (he writes accessable tunes that sort of sound like
something you've heard before, but they take surprising turns that
make them seem fresh), the lyrics were fun, and the book has a lot of
very good wisecracks. Choreography was indeed crotch-centered, but it
didn't particularly bother me, and was energetically performed. Will
the show be done often in high schools? Probably, but I get the sense
that the material wouldn't work as well in a lesser production. This
production, however, was terrific.

I was a little disappointed (just a little) in David Hyde Pierce, as
he didn't seem 100% there to me -- maybe he was tired, I don't know --
and his Boston accent seemed to be via London or something -- it sure
didn't sound authentic to my ears.

But boy, how great it was to see a musical comedy -- a fun *new*
musical comedy -- not based on a famous film where you already know
the jokes coming in.
