I watched this film a week or so ago - I was too lazy to move away
from the sofa and the remote was out of reach - I hate this movie.
I was made to watch it as a kid - well, these were days when there
were only 3 tv channels and one tv per house ... I wasn't tied down or
anything ... I guess I was lazy as a kid too.

Anyhoo - it struck me : the film is a bad retelling of Madame
Butterfly and the theme tune is directly lifted from piuccini's score,
so the lyricist (I've no idea who) has just been lazy and arrived at a
title to fit the phrasing of the score.

It's a terrible song as well. I have a real downer on this film.
If it comes on again, I may be moved to move ...


I remember Han Suyin's original novel was semi autobiographical. It relates
her affair with an English journalist, they changed the Englishman to an
American for the movie (natch!). I would imagine the title is a literal
translation of a Chinese saying.
