And there's the key to this discussion. Mic placement is the most
important thing. A properly placed Oktava will probably sound as
good, if not better, than a poorly placed MKH50. If you are doing
only low budget stuff and can use the extra $1000 for an additional
tool which might be more helpful, then go for it. But don't show up
on a "professional" shoot with the Oktava. When you move up to better
things that pay proper rental, then buy the right tools. If you
expect this to happen soon, then don't waste your money buying things
twice.
